Living in A Shattered World:
Claiming Our Losses and Re‑anchoring Our Lost Footing

Having experienced a major loss or crisis, we may feel that we have lost our sense of footing in life and the resulting loss and grief may be overwhelming.  In this webinar, we examine the key concepts of the Shattered Assumptive World theory and their relevance in times of crises, trauma and loss, such as in the context of the current pandemic.  Learners will receive clear instructions for the use of two interview tools whose goals are to help clients identify their losses and validate the resulting grief, as well as exploring “the other side of the coin” using the concept of duality to re-anchor their lost footing.  Learners will also get the opportunity to experiment using these tools through personal reflection.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

  • Describe the key concepts of the Shattered Assumptive World and its relevance in experiences of loss and transition;
  • Practice using Claiming Our Losses in the Era of COVID-19 to help clients identify and name the losses they experienced in crises, like the coronavirus pandemic, elicit their deeper significance and validate their resulting grief; and
  • Implement the BRACE for the Lost Footing technique to help clients embrace the concept of duality and restore their grounding despite the impact of their loss experience.
